Obstetricians and midwives are
increasingly aware of the risk of infection implicit in the use
of oral mucus extractors. A midwife may be infected from
contaminated mucus or meconium whilst the baby and mother may
be infected if the midwife is a carrier of a pathogen cg. B
haemolytic streptococcus, MRSA, infective hepatitis or rarely
HIV. Fasflo's- unique design with unidirectional flow reduces the
risk of cross-infection from infant to midwife and from midwife
to infant or mother without acrolisation of the aspirate. A
single squeeze of the bellows generates the recommended
negative pressure of between -50 and -100 mmhg*. Fasflo's single handed, manual operation allows for easy
catheter manipulation and provides a simple and efficient
method of mucus extraction.
